Abstract

Background: The dry eye is known as common disorder that is caused by decreased tear production or increased tears evaporation.

Aim: Study aim was to calculate impact of lutein zeaxanthin, omega_ 03, Oral supplements, and tears artificial eye drops for treatment of dry eyes.

Methods: A quasi-experimental study was performed at the DG Eye Care Hospital.  A Non_ Probability, convenient sampling technique was used to detect symptoms from mild to moderate of 90 individuals. The dry eye types were divide them into three groups, one receiving artificial tear eye drops three times per day and other receiving lutein-zeaxanthin, and omega-3 oral supplements once daily.

Results: Results of this study showed a clear difference of p = 0.00 & p <0.05, was present between supplements omega_ 03, the lutein-zeaxanthin and the artificial eye drop. Omega-3 had a mean value and standard deviation (11.17+0.874), lutein-zeaxanthin had mean value and standard deviation (9.53+0 .730), and artificial tears eye drop had mean value (10.57+0.165).

Conclusions: Conclusion of study was a clear betterment in tear TBUT time and ocular surface disorders. Three different treatment options: omega-3 was more effective, and artificial tear eye drops had minimal difference in effectiveness. With more effect from the Omega-3 oral supplement and artificial tear eye drops, the lutein-zeaxanthin oral supplement was an effective treatment. The findings of this study also showed that both oral supplements omega-3 and lutein-zeaxanthin could be used for longer periods of time with minimal side effects by patients with a higher acceptability rate as compared to artificial tears eye drops.
